    Description

    1856 Snow-9 Flying Eagle Cent, PR64
    Inaugural Small Cent Issue

1856 1C Snow-9 PR64 PCGS. This is an example of the usual Snow-9 variety, struck from a middle state of the dies as evidenced by the more pronounced die scratch through the U in UNITED and the repolished, mirrored fields. The coin's original copper-nickel color has deepened several shades and now each side displays a lovely, even golden-brown coloration. The only noticeable surface flaws are a couple of contact marks in the field below CENT on the reverse. The presence of a high-grade first-year Flying Eagle cent is the mark of any distinguished set.
Ex: Baltimore Signature (Heritage, 7/2003), lot 5240.

    Coin Index Numbers: (Variety PCGS# 147890, Base PCGS# 2037)

    Weight: 4.70 grams

    Metal: 88% Copper, 12% Nickel
