Description

1858 Cent, PR63 Cameo
Rare Large Letters Proof

1858 1C Large Letters PR63 Cameo PCGS. Snow-PR1. High Leaves, Closed E in ONE. Rick Snow in 2001 estimated that only 100 proofs were struck, and 50 of those have survived. Certainly, there are fewer proofs of the 1858 than the 1856, though that first-year issue receives more glory due to its very low overall mintage. The present piece is fully struck and boasts prominently mirrored wheat-gold fields, characteristic of the well-made proof issue. Devoid of hairlines or contact marks, and carbon is nearly absent.(Registry values: P2)
