    1858 Flying Eagle Cent, Large Letters
    PR66, Tied for Finest at PCGS

    1858 1C Large Letters, Snow-PR1, PR66 PCGS. A small mintage of proof Flying Eagle cents was accomplished in 1858, with approximately 300 examples produced, according to the 2017 Guide Book. The proofs were split between the Large Letters (about 100 examples struck) and Small Letters (about 200 pieces struck) design types. This coin represents the Large Letters type of 1857, with the letters AM in AMERICA touching. Only one set of dies was used to strike the Large Letters proofs, designated as PR1 by Rick Snow. The reverse shows High Leaves and a Closed E in ONE.

    This delightful Premium Gem displays razor-sharp definition on all design elements and the well-preserved surfaces are copper-red, with a few hints of lilac. The fields are deeply reflective and overall eye appeal is tremendous. Population: 2 in 66, 0 finer (8/16).(Registry values: N10218)
