1950 Half Dollar, Top-Grade PR68
Tied With One Other for Finest at PCGS
A Beautiful Registry Set Example

1950 50C PR68 PCGS. Many non-Cameo examples of the 1950 proof Franklin half dollar have a distinctive form of field reflectivity that is reminiscent of the Special Mint Set coins struck in 1967. That is, they often have a subtle satiny luster lying beneath the glimmering mirrors, providing no compromise on reflectivity yet without the deep, watery mirroring seen on later proof issues. This makes the highest-grade examples of the 1950 visually captivating in a way that many other Franklin half proofs are not. The current coin displays this appearance well, while also ranking as one of the two top-graded non-Cameos at PCGS. Traces of light champagne color grace otherwise brilliant surfaces, while fully struck motifs further heighten the appeal. The virtually flawless preservation makes the coin immensely important.
