    Description

Significant 1860 Gold Dollar, PR63 Cameo

1860 G$1 PR63 Cameo NGC. CAC. The surfaces are yellow-gold overall, but the considerable field-device contrast produces the desirable gold-on-black appearance coveted by collectors of proof gold. A few minor field marks explain the grade but fail to dampen either the appeal or the significance; this is an important opportunity to obtain an example of this antebellum issue, produced to the extent of only 154 coins, for a reasonable outlay. Garrett and Guth estimate that only 25-30 examples survive today, even though this is the first proof gold dollar made in more than token quantity. The repunching on the LL of DOLLAR is typical. Census: 3 in 63 Cameo, 6 finer (6/10).(Registry values: P4) (NGC ID# 25E3, PCGS# 87610)

    Weight: 1.70 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
