Quality 1861 Dollar in PR 64

1861 PR 64 PCGS. Of the 349 proofs reported minted, some numismatists believe that fewer than three dozen survive, and perhaps as few as two dozen. PCGS reports a total certified population of only twelve coins: six in PR 64, and six in PR 65. In addition to rarity, this coin bespeaks quality, especially on the obverse. Deeply mirrored fields produce a lovely cameo effect with the frosted head of Liberty. The only impairments worth mentioning are a hint of porosity at the IC of AMERICA, and a heavy hairline below STAT. The reverse also rates high in eye appeal, although there are light marks below the date and above DO. Altogether, a very attractive coin in a grade that is nearly unimprovable.
