    Description

Finest Certified 1863 Gold Dollar, PR65 Deep Cameo

1863 G$1 PR65 Deep Cameo PCGS. Gold dollars of 1863 come with a mintage of 50 pieces. Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth, in their Encyclopedia of U.S. Gold Coins reference, estimate less than half of the original mintage is still in existence. NGC and PCGS have certified slightly more than 30 examples, but a number of these are undoubtedly resubmissions. A mere five specimens have been designated Deep Cameos, the Gem in this lot ranking the finest of these.
Rich yellow-gold surfaces reveal touches of apricot, and frosted design elements stand out amidst deeply mirrored fields. A powerful strike emboldens the motifs, further enhancing the contrast and already outstanding eye appeal. A couple of squiggly lint marks are visible on the reverse, and close scrutiny reveals a few slight ticks that just barely preclude an even higher grade.(Registry values: P5) (NGC ID# 25E6, PCGS# 97613)
