Description

1864 Gold Dollar, PR64 Deep Cameo
Appealing, Contrasted Surfaces

1864 G$1 PR64 Deep Cameo PCGS. Profoundly contrasted surfaces feature well-frosted devices against the reflective fields, producing the admirable, desired orange-on-black appearance of Deep Cameo proof gold. These tiny coins had a tiny Civil War mintage of only 50 proofs, and few survive today in any recognizable form -- far fewer still with the Deep Cameo designation. PCGS reports only six Deep Cameos in all unimpaired grades (PR60 and higher), including this piece and one other in PR64, along with one each in PR64+, PR65, PR66, and PR66+ (11/15). A couple of small contact marks on each side are consistent with the grade, but great eye appeal is present on this piece.(Registry values: P5)
