    Description

    Cameo PR66 1867 Gold Dollar
    Reverse Approaches Ultra Cameo

1867 G$1 PR66 Cameo NGC. "Mintages have little correlation with reality." While this sentence is applied more commonly to late-date double eagles or Morgan dollars, it is just as true for many issues of 19th century proof gold. While Mint records list 50 proofs struck for the 1867 gold dollar, an uptick from the 25 and 30 pieces listed for 1865 and 1866, the proof 1867 gold dollar is far scarcer than either date in practice. This pale but well-contrasted yellow-gold specimen has great detail. The reverse, which approaches Ultra Cameo quality, is a true delight. Census: 4 in 66 Cameo, 0 finer (11/12).
