Description

1869 Gold Dollar, PR64
Only 25 Minted

1869 G$1 PR64 PCGS. Housed in a green-label PCGS holder, this Choice proof is an exceptional example, representing an important early proof gold dollar issue. Mint records indicate that only 25 proofs were coined, and about a dozen survive today. Both sides of this specimen are deeply mirrored with brilliant yellow surfaces and faint iridescent toning splashes. The obverse has satin devices yielding slight contrast, while the reverse has vivid field-to-device contrast. PCGS has certified three examples in PR64, one in PR64 Cameo, and one in PR65 Cameo (6/12).(Registry values: P5)
