1870 Gold Dollar, PR63, Ex: Pittman
1870 G$1 PR63 NGC. Ex: Pittman. This attractive yellow-gold specimen has flashy mirrors and noticeable cameo contrast. The strike is precise, and the only relevant marks are limited to the border near the A in STATES. Rare, since only 35 proofs were struck. The NGC encapsulation bears the misspelling PTTMAN. Census: 2 in 63, 0 finer (4/08).Ex: Will W. Neil Collection (B. Max Mehl, 6/1947), lot 2319, which realized $28.50; John Jay Pittman Collection, Part One (David Akers, 10/1997), lot 905, which realized $4,400.(Registry values: P7)
