Description

Gem Proof 1876 Gold Dollar
Prized Centennial-Year Issue

1876 G$1 PR65 NGC. The 1876 proof gold dollar claims a mintage of only 45 pieces, with a surviving population of just over two dozen specimens in all grades. Proofs can be distinguished from prooflike business strikes by a short die line that runs under the right foot of the first A in AMERICA. Many specimens, the present coin included, show loss of detail in the leftmost feather of the headdress, due to excessive die polishing.
The coin offered here is a sharply detailed Gem, with brightly reflective yellow-gold surfaces that show highlights of green color. Close inspection reveals only the most minor imperfections, none of them worthy of individual mention. Census: 1 in 65, 0 finer (9/11).(Registry values: P4)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25EK, PCGS# 7626, Greysheet# 8166)

Weight: 1.67 grams
