    Description

    1877 Gold Dollar, PR55
    Only 20 Proofs Struck

1877 G$1 PR55 PCGS. The proof 1877 gold dollar is a great rarity, and underrated as such. Of the 20 pieces struck, just 13 to 15 examples are thought to survive in all grades, two of which are out of collectors' hands in the Smithsonian Institution and the ANS. The combined PCGS and NGC population of 24 pieces is highly inflated by resubmissions. In more than two decades, we have offered a proof 1877 on only eight previous occasions. This piece is the single lowest-certified example, an ideal choice for the budget-conscious collector. Slight friction in the fields allows significant mirroring to shine through, and the design elements are boldly executed. Each side displays warm honey-gold patina, with a few violet overtones on the lower reverse. Population: 1 in 55, 3 finer (9/15).(Registry values: P6) (NGC ID# 25EL, PCGS# 7627)

    Weight: 1.67 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
