1881 G$1 --Altered Surface--NGC. Proof. The fields have been carefully smoothed near the profile, beneath the headdress, and on each side of the prominent 1 within the denomination. A razor-sharp yellow-gold specimen. Only 87 proofs were struck, only a fraction of the post-1883 proof production.(Registry values: P3)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25ER, PCGS# 7631, GSID# 8181)
