Description

1881 Gold Dollar, PR64 Deep Cameo

1881 G$1 PR64 Deep Cameo PCGS. CAC. The 1881 is a low-mintage date as opposed to later dates of gold dollars from the 1880s, with only 87 proofs produced in 1881. There is only one published diagnostic to distinguish proofs from prooflike business strikes, a small unfinished area in the die between the lower left part of the D and the wreath. This near-Gem includes deeply mirrored fields providing a strong background contrast against the heavily frosted devices. A curious strike-through is present on this piece, which should aid as a pedigree identifier. An oval-shaped, nearly perfect O appears to the right of the second S in STATES. Population: 6 in 64 Deep Cameo, 7 finer (3/14).(Registry values: P3)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25ER, PCGS# 97631, Greysheet# 8183)

Weight: 1.70 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
