Gorgeous PR64 Deep Cameo 1881 Gold Dollar

1881 G$1 PR64 Deep Cameo PCGS. Unmistakably a proof--with high, fully squared rims on both sides, and crisp details throughout--although not all of the Breen Proof Encyclopedia diagnostics match: "Widely spaced date. B-1. Heavy letters, partial extra outlines. Rev. 1 centered below O, second 8 below L; wreath tops joined; recuttings within 8's at r."
While on this coin the date is widely spaced and the letters are heavy with extra outlines, there is no obvious recutting, the wreath tops are separate, and while the 1 is more or less beneath the O, the second 8 is to the right of the L. Could this be a second proof die, for this small mintage of 87 coins? The orange-gold surfaces show stark field-device contrast, and the coin offers gorgeous eye appeal. Perhaps only a couple of tiny reverse contact marks prevent a finer grade, as the obverse appears choice for the PR64 level. Population: 5 in 64 Deep Cameo, 5 finer (7/07).(Registry values: P3)
