    Description

Splendid 1881 Gold Dollar PR66 Ultra Cameo

1881 G$1 PR66 Ultra Cameo NGC. A mere 87 proofs were produced this year from an enticingly low total mintage of 7,707 pieces, but the comparatively large number of hoarded prooflike survivors that were actually struck from the same dies has long-skewed the actual rarity of 1881 proof gold dollars. The instantly appealing yellow-gold specimen offered here is struck with pinpoint sharpness and boasts dramatic field-to-device contrast. Simply put, an awe-inspiring proof that sells for little more than the more available issues from 1882 forward. Census: 6 in 66, 2 finer (11/06).(Registry values: P3) (NGC ID# 26LC, PCGS# 97631)

    Weight: 1.70 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
