Description

1882 Gold Dollar, PR66 Cameo
Only One Numerically Finer

1882 G$1 PR66 Cameo PCGS. The 1882 and 1883 gold dollars were the last of the relatively low mintage proof issues with 125 and 207 proofs minted, respectively. Beginning in 1884 through the end of the series in 1889, proof mintages exceeded 1,000 coins each year. In addition to the 125 proofs, the Philadelphia Mint coined 5,000 circulation strikes, and many of the latter coins have prooflike surfaces, being called proofs in years gone by. This glittering Premium Gem has brilliant orange-gold surfaces with deeply mirrored fields around fully lustrous devices, bordering on a deep cameo appearance. The only numerically finer submission at PCGS is a single PR67 Deep Cameo example. Population: 4 in 66 Cameo, 0 finer (3/17).(Registry values: P2)
