Description

1883 Gold Dollar, PR66 Deep Cameo
Sole Deep Cameo at PCGS

1883 G$1 PR66 Deep Cameo PCGS. With a mintage of 207 pieces, the proof 1883 gold dollar is collectible but scarce. Survivors are seen in numerous levels of preservation, but one common characteristic is a general lack of truly deep cameo contrast. This Premium Gem, showing stark field-device contrast and glasslike mirroring in the fields, is the sole Deep Cameo certified at PCGS (8/16). The coin is fully struck and seemingly flawless in preservation. The mirrored obverse fields show faint die striations beneath a 10x loupe, and a tiny link mark appears midway between Liberty's nose and the ED in UNITED. The reverse also has a few small lintmarks, the most prominent of which occurs on the left branch of the wreath. This is quite a lovely little coin, even if its demanding rarity is not considered.(Registry values: P2)
