1884 PR 66 PCGS. First year of greatly enhanced production of proofs with 1,006 pieces struck in this format this year. Apparently many were used in the jewelry trade and attrition has taken a heavy toll on the original mintage. The clear, glassy fields set up a strong cameo contrast against the mint frost on the devices. Struck from the proof dies with the diagnostic doubling on the digits in the date.
