Description

1885 Gold Dollar, Honey-Gold PR62

1885 G$1 PR62 ANACS. JD-2, R.5. Neither the 1885 gold dollar circulation strikes nor the proofs were an overlarge production, 11,156 of the former and 1,105 of the latter, although that was likely a sufficient number to satisfy the demand. Savvy coin dealers and collectors saw the "writing on the wall" and kept these late-series, low-mintage issues in quantities when possible. This piece shows attractive honey-gold patina over surfaces that show a few minuscule ticks, none in the least overt.(Registry values: P1)
