1885 Gold Dollar
1885 G$1 PR64 Cameo NGC. CAC. Beginning in 1884, proof gold
dollar mintages exceeded 1,000 pieces through the end of the series
in 1889. Many if not most of those coins were ordered by jewelers
and fashioned into love tokens, a fad of the era that explains the
rarity of unimpaired proof survivors. The present exquisite
near-Gem has radiant, razor-sharp devices and glassy sun-gold
fields. Cherry-red toning adorns the margins. Encapsulated in a
