Description

1885 Gold Dollar, PR64
Excellent Eye Appeal

1885 G$1 PR64 PCGS. JD-1, R.4. Production of proof gold dollars reached its zenith in 1885, with 1,105 pieces struck. As one would expect, this is the most available date in the series as a proof, but that being said there are surprisingly few survivors available for today's collector--fewer than 300 specimens are believed extant in all grades. This instantly appealing example has rich orange-gold color and unfathomably deep mirrors. Magnification reveals a couple of barely perceptible hairlines (not from cleaning) that limit the grade to "only" PR64. Housed in a green-label holder. Population: 20 in 64, 26 finer (4/24).(Registry values: P1)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 25EV, PCGS# 7635, Greysheet# 8193)

Weight: 1.67 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
