1885 Gold Dollar, PR67+ Deep Cameo
Single Finest Example at PCGS

1885 G$1 PR67+ Deep Cameo PCGS. CAC. Gold dollars must have continued to be a popular collectors' item in the mid-1880s. The proof mintage again exceeded 1,000 pieces in 1885, and a relatively large number have survived the ravages of time. This is evident from the population reports. PCGS has graded nearly 200 1885 gold dollars in proof format, though just 18 have been designated Ultra Cameo, as the present Superb Gem. This bright yellow-gold proof has distinctive orange-peel texturing in the fields on each side. Die rust can be seen on the hair behind the ear on the obverse. The only surface disturbances are a few tiny lint marks. Population: 3 in 67 (1 in 67+) Deep Cameo, 0 finer. CAC: 3 in 67, 0 finer (11/16).(Registry values: P1)
