1887 Gold Dollar, PR64 Ultra Cameo
Glittering Late-Series Near-Gem
1887 G$1 PR64 Ultra Cameo NGC. Clearly a proof, struck from
the proof dies with the top of the wreath closed and 7 in the date
wholly beneath the A in DOLLARS. The D, O, and A are filled.
Dramatic cameo contrast elevates the frosted devices above
jet-black mirrors, which are exceptionally deep throughout the coin
except where Mint-related striations angle across the upper-left
obverse. Some small areas of delicate lines and a few isolated
patches of orange-peel texture are visible with a loupe, but do
little to diminish the vibrant and rich, yellow-gold eye appeal
that glitters from all points of this Choice Ultra Cameo proof.
