Description

1887 Gold Dollar, PR65 Deep Cameo
Top-Shelf Contrast

1887 G$1 PR65 Deep Cameo PCGS. CAC. Near the end of the gold dollar's generation-long life, it became a quiet favorite of sorts among the upper crust of the Eastern Seaboard, some of who favored the diminutive but expensive denomination as a glittering gift for Christmas. Perhaps this Gem beauty with its stunning Deep Cameo contrast was bought for just such a purpose, though it may well have gone to a dedicated collector instead. Amply frosted devices created black-and-gold contrast with the fields when tilted out of the light, while the whole lights up pale yellow when dipped into a beam. Population: 1 in 65 Deep Cameo, 2 finer (8/13).(Registry values: P1)
