Sparkling Gem Proof 1887 Gold Dollar
1887 G$1 PR66 PCGS. Struck near the tail end of the denomination, this 1887 Gold dollar is certainly one of the finer ones known. Note the quality of the fields which show virtually no signs of handling, and the frosted devices which are exceptionally well preserved. Fully and completely struck as expected for a proof. We note one minor lint mark which is hidden on the reverse wreath just below 3 o'clock, which crosses the upper part of the wheat head, and continues across the ear of corn to the left. A much shorter curved lint mark is seen right of the 7 in the date. Of the 1,043 struck in proof, this is very close to the finest seen, and a very attractive coin indeed.
