Description
Gem 1887 Gold Dollar, Elusive Proof Format
1887 G$1 PR 66 PCGS. This late-date issue was produced to the extent of only 7,500 business strikes and 1,043 proofs. The latter are among the more available dates of the type. When considered in the wider context of numismatics, however, the proof 1887 gold dollar is an understandably rare coin. The present lot offers a bright, yellow-gold example with appreciable cameo contrast. Not a single hairline or contact mark interrupts the smooth sheen. From the Violet Bancroft Collection.
