Description

1888 Gold Dollar, PR64
Ex: Bass

1888 G$1 JD-1, High R.4, PR64 PCGS. Ex: H.W. Bass, Jr. Collection. This die pair struck proofs and circulation strikes. Some 1,079 proofs were coined, and 150 to 225 survive, according to John Dannreuther. The 1888 is a prime opportunity for the budget-bound collector to acquire a nice proof gold dollar in a strong grade like the PR64 piece offered here. It is sharply defined and well-mirrored, with rich orange-gold patina and original surfaces. Population: 27 in 64, 40 finer (12/24).
From The Carolina Classics Collection.
