    Description

    1888 Gold Dollar, PR66+ Cameo
    Deeply Mirrored, Highly Contrasted

1888 G$1 PR66+ Cameo NGC. With a proof mintage of 1,079 pieces, this issue is one of the more available Type Three proofs and it is often a popular choice for type. First-strike business strikes are sometimes confused with proofs for this date, although there can be no doubt about this example's proof format.

Extremely deep mirrors surround thickly frosted devices of this rich, orange-gold dollar. The strike is full and detailed and appears in strong relief against the mirrored fields. A tiny tick on the cheek is the only mentionable contact mark on this Premium Gem example, which was awarded NGC's Plus designation for outstanding eye appeal (the only one of its grade to receive the distinction). Census: 15 in 66 Cameo (1 in 66+ Cameo), 8 finer (1/14).(Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 25EY, PCGS# 87638)

    Weight: 1.70 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
