Description

1888 Gold Dollar, PR66 Cameo
Seldom Finer

1888 G$1 PR66 Cameo PCGS. Proof gold dollar mintages during the last several years exceeded 1,000 coins annually as the public sought out gifts that were reasonably priced, and jewelers made extensive use of the diminutive coins in bracelets and other items. Perhaps as many as 200 survive of the 1,079 proof gold dollars minted in 1888. Past estimates have ranged from as low as two dozen survivors to as high as 500, nearly half the mintage. This example features amazing eye appeal with deeply mirrored yellow-gold fields that frame the brilliant and frosty light yellow devices.
