    Description

    1889 Gold Dollar, PR66 Cameo
    High Mintage, Low Survival

1889 G$1 PR66 Cameo PCGS. The proof mintage of gold dollars during the final year of issue was higher than at any previous time in the history of the denomination, with 1,779 pieces minted. However, the grading service population data fails to support such a large mintage, with a strong likelihood that most of the mintage was melted in later years. PCGS has only certified 69 proof examples of this issue and NGC has certified just 37 pieces in all grades. This Premium Gem Cameo proof ranks high in the PCGS roster, with only two finer examples certified, neither designated as a Cameo example. This piece has bold design definition with satiny devices and deeply mirrored fields, exhibiting brilliant yellow surfaces and wisps of orange coloration. Population: 4 in 66 Cameo, 0 finer (3/13).(Registry values: P1) (NGC ID# 25EZ, PCGS# 87639)

    Weight: 1.70 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
