Description

Deeply Mirrored 1833 Proof Half Cent

1833 PR 64 Brown. An obvious proof that displays intensely mirrored fields and uncommonly sharp striking details. Struck from Die State III, one of the four die states proofs were struck from in this year. This die state not only shows two faint die cracks along the stars on the left of the obverse, but there is also faint die clashing on the reverse--both are unusual characteristics of proofs from any era, but not unheard of on proofs produced on a screw press. The surfaces have a bright purple and blue coloration beneath the light brown patina seen over the coin overall. Rated as an R.5 as a proof, this is an important early proof half cent and is seldom offered as such.
