Description
1841 Original Half Cent, PR66 Brown
Large Berries, B-1
1841 1/2 C Original, B-1, R.5, PR66 Brown PCGS. CAC. The
Large Berries on the reverse of this variety are indicative of the
Original strike that was coined in 1841. A common reverse die was
used for all the Original half cents throughout the decade. Richard
T. Coleman estimates that as many as 67 examples of this variety
exist, ranking it as the most plentiful of all the proof half cent
varieties in the 1840s. For that reason, it is a variety frequently
chosen to represent the Braided Hair design in 19th century type
sets. This iridescent Premium Gem has mirrored brown fields with
lovely blue overtones and splashes of original orange mint color.
