Gem Proof 1842 First Restrike Half Cent
1842 Restrike PR 65 Red and Brown NGC. First Restrike. The First Restrikes are easily identifiable by the small berries and doubled T in CENT. A Low R.7 proof striking, this is a Series III coin with a die flaw on the outer point of star 4. The fields are deeply mirrored on each side, and the flaming red brilliance is only slightly subdued by blue and olive-green patches of color. The reverse shows extensive evidence of the dies having been wiped prior to striking with a cloth, the remaining lint marks being impressed into that side of the finished coin. A visually impressive coin and one that would be difficult to improve upon with as much remaining luster as shows on this piece. Population: 2 in 65, none are finer (6/96).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26Z8, PCGS# 1264, GSID# 598)
