Description

A Second Gem Proof 1842 First Restrike Half Cent

1842 Restrike PR 65 Red and Brown NGC. First Restrike. Also a Series III coin, this piece lacks the lint marks of the coin above, but shows numerous minute flakes in the planchet, especially on the reverse. Again, deeply mirrored, the original bright mint red luster has been subdued by the presence of a significant amount of olive-green patina in the fields on each side. Lightly spotted on the obverse, the most noticeable surface flaws are a spot at the top of Liberty's hair, a planchet flake out of the obverse rim at 7 o'clock, and a squiggly lint mark between stars 6 and 7. A rare opportunity to select from two examples of this important proof issue.
