1844 Half Cent, PR64 Red and Brown
Rare First Restrike, B-2

1844 1/2 C First Restrike PR64 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. B-2, R.7. Ex: Norweb. 82.5 grains. The Richard T. Coleman, Jr. census in the November 2003 Pennywise lists only six specimens for this rare variety of the proof-only 1844. First restrikes have small berries on the wreath, and exhibit doubling on the upright of the T in CENT. This well-pedigreed specimen is sharply struck. The obverse is predominantly orange-gold, with scattered flecks and high point gray patina. The reverse is rich powder-blue and brick-red. A narrow vertical mark below star 4 provides an identifier. Our EAC grade PR63.
