Description

1844 Original Half Cent, B-1
PR65 Red and Brown

1844 1/2 C Original PR65 Red and Brown NGC. B-1, R.6. Ex: P. Kaufman. Only about 15 different examples are known today, and most are far short of Gem quality. Among the finest are the Eliasberg coin and the Anderson-Dupont specimen. This piece easily qualifies among the finest coins in the Census of this issue. The obverse has considerable rose colored brilliance surrounded by sky-blue toning. The reverse is similar, though with less rose and more blue. This example has few pedigree markers, although a small orange spot can be seen between stars 10 and 11. Our EAC grade PR63.
Ex: Denver Signature (Heritage, 8/2006), lot 5024.
