Description

1845 Second Restrike Half Cent

1845 Restrike PR 62 Brown PCGS. Second Restrike. A very rare proof half-cent, the Second Restrikes are distinguished by small berries and die file marks over RICA. Partial knife rims on both sides, the surfaces of this coin are a bit dull from the deep jade-green patina. Additionally, close inspection reveals numerous tiny planchet flakes on the obverse which do not affect the appearance of the coin but undoubtedly influence its technical grade. Fewer than a dozen pieces are believed to exist of this rare proof variant.
Ex: Davies-Niewoehner Collection (Paramount, 2/75), lot 93, where it realized $800.
