Description

Proof Restrike 1845 Half-Cent

1845 Restrike PR 65 Red and Brown NGC. Second Restrike. A Low R.7 proof striking, the Second Restrike coins are most easily distinguished by the small berries in the wreath and die file marks above RICA. The two sides of this coin are a study in contrasts. The obverse must have retained full, blazing mint red color until relatively recently as significant portions still show surrounding the devices with cherry-red and light brown elsewhere. The reverse, on the other hand, is heavily toned in shades of purple, brown, and red, and the fields on that side show obvious die striations. Numerous small spots are peppered across the obverse with the two most obvious ones just left of the top of the 1 in the date and the other below 45. Population: 1 in 65, only 2 finer (1/97).
