Description

1847 Restrike PR 65 Red and Brown NGC. Second Restrike. According to Breen, only 18 or so examples are known of this proof-only date. As with the 1845 above, the diagnostic die file marks are visible in the same location on the reverse above RICA. This same reverse die was used for all second restrikes. The obverse is a deep, crimson-red color, the reverse exhibits deeper magenta-violet, olive-green, and tan colorations. A carbon spot is noted at the 11th star on the obverse. None have been certified in higher grades by NGC according to the June data.
