Description

Gem 1831 First Restrike Half Cent

1831 PR 65 Brown NGC. Reverse of 1836. Although a restrike, this variety of the 1831 is one of the true rarities of the Classic Head half cent series. With a mintage of only 30 pieces, and with only 6 graded, this is one of the most difficult, and desirable of the entire half cent series. Chocolate-brown on the reverse, the obverse also has a few lighter brown areas with an occasional splash of blue. The strike is razor sharp, on both sides, and there is no evidence of the reverse die break normally seen on this variety. The surfaces exhibit deep mirror reflectivity with an absence of abrasions.
