Description

1852 First Restrike Proof Half Cent

1852 Restrike PR 63 Brown PCGS. First Restrike. A first restrike proof that is characterized by the small berries reverse and doubling on the T in CENT and ribbon. Another characteristic of First Restrikes for this year is that the wreath appears to be broken at the lower right position. This is the "B" reverse, a die that according to Breen was first employed in 1856, then 1857, and finally used to produce the 1840-49 restrike half cents. Possibly 40 to 50 pieces exist today in all grades. Fully struck in all areas, the fields have a glassy sheen beneath the brown, and tan patina that covers both sides. Minimal spotting for the grade. (NGC ID# 26ZT, Variety PCGS# 1317, Base PCGS# 35402)

    Weight: 5.44 grams

    Metal: 100% Copper
