Description

1855 C-1, B-1 Half Cent, PR64 Brown
Splendid Powder-Blue Toning

1855 1/2 C C-1, B-1, R.5 as a Proof, PR64 Brown PCGS. All 1855 half cents, whether struck as proofs or for commerce, were from Cohen-1 dies. Business strike examples are available, even in nice Mint State condition, but proofs are scarce and are often encountered with spots. The present near-Gem displays minimal carbon, with one fleck evident below the D in UNITED. The powder-blue and plum-red toning is splendid. A long narrow strike-through extends from the E in UNITED to the first T in STATES and is a prominent identifier for any future auction appearances. Population: 10 in 64 (1 in 64+) Brown, 2 finer (8/23).

Coin Index Numbers: (Variety PCGS# 35417, Base PCGS# 1326)
