1907 High Relief Proof Double Eagle

1907 $20 High Relief -- Cleaned -- NGC Details. Proof, AU.
High Relief double eagles classified as proofs by NGC (and,
recently, as specimens by PCGS), are struck from a single die pair
and utilize the edge collar that was employed for the Ultra High
Relief patterns. These High Relief proofs are scarce and highly
sought after. This piece is lightly polished, as noted by NGC,
although the swirling die lines diagnostic of the proof issue are
still discernible with a loupe, and the edge-view holder allows
examination of the Ultra High Relief collar. Bright yellow-gold
surfaces show scattered marks as expected, but with strong
definition of strike. Includes a custom Capital Plastics screw-type
holder with gold inlay typography on the front noting the coin's
provenance in the 1991 Coin Galleries mail bid auction.Ex: Mail Bid Sale (Coin Galleries/Stack's, 4/1991), lot 3474, realized $2,625.
