Description

1907 High Relief, PR63
Exceptionally Strong Strike

1907 $20 High Relief PR63 NGC. CAC. NGC acknowledges a few High Relief proofs from a single die pair based on research by Scott Schechter, in part by noting the same collar used to strike Proof 1907 Ultra High Relief double eagles was used to strike the the 1907 High Relief pieces NGC now identifies as proofs. Some of the edge device characteristics include a recut B, a notched upper serif inn U of PLURIBUS, and diagonal die lines on the collar segment between the S of PLURIBUS and the adjacent star. The proof coins show a distinctive texture and pure satiny luster that sets them apart from other High Relief examples and the proofs display sharply defined design elements with exceptional overall high quality and eye appeal. A thin Wire Rim surrounds the few proof examples certified, accounting for approximately 6% to 7% of the High Relief proof mintage. While PCGS does not recognize High Relief proofs per se, but that service recognizes some High Relief coins as Specimen strikes. This PR63 NGC example displays CAC endorsement confirming the extra-sharp strike and the splendid satiny, olive-gold surface quality. The edge device is difficult to view in the holder, but NGC's certification confirms the edge diagnostics. NGC Census: 50 in 63, 190 finer. CAC: 1 in 63, 3 finer (12/25).
