1907 PR64 Wire Rim High Relief Twenty
Complete Wire Rim Around the Obverse

1907 $20 High Relief PR64 NGC. An unknown number of proof High Reliefs were struck in 1907. In Robert Loewinger's reference on proof gold, he differentiates between the proofs struck from Collar I (Flat Rim coins) and Collar II (Wire Rim coins). Collar II pieces show the bases of the M in UNUM slanting. That feature is viewable on this particular coin because it is housed in a newer four-prong encasement that allows viewing of most of the edge. The wire rim is complete around the obverse and nearly so around the reverse. The surfaces otherwise are bright and satiny with only the slightest contact marks. As always on proof High Reliefs, the fields show strong evidence of swirling die polish marks. A complete list of attributes for proofs can be found on pages 76-77 of Loewinger's Proof Gold Coinage of the United States. (NGC ID# 28AX, PCGS# 9132)
