    Description

    Reddish Tinted 1859 Cent, PR65

1859 1C PR65 NGC. An obvious proof striking from arm's length, the fields are deeply mirrored on each side. The original gray-tan color of the copper-nickel alloy has taken on a surprising amount of even reddish patina, and if one did not know better this piece could be confused with a later bronze composition. Fully struck, as one would expect, the obverse shows a number of tiny specks of carbon. Census: 31 in 65, 22 finer (5/08).
