    Description

    Gem Proof 1859 Indian Cent

1859 1C PR66 NGC. A captivating issue, popular due its status both as the inaugural Indian Cent and as the only regular issue to utilize the laurel wreath reverse, and far scarcer than mintage figures would indicate as an unknown portion of the total production was either circulated or destroyed due to lackluster sales. This example ranks among the finest survivors, with immaculate surfaces, a razor-sharp strike, and slightly contrasted flashy fields and frosty devices. Bold blue, green, and gold surface tones are accented by vivid splashes of orange patina throughout and blazing magenta and emerald at the rims. Population: 21 in 66, 2 finer (8/05).(#2247) (Registry values: N4719)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 2299, PCGS# 2247)

    Weight: 4.67 grams

    Metal: 88% Copper, 12% Nickel
