Description
1860 Indian Cent, PR66+
Only Two Finer, CAC
1860 1C PR66+ NGC. CAC. Snow-PR1. The second issue of the
Indian cent proof was updated to include the shield-wreath design
as well as the rounded bust obverse. While 1,000 proof coins were
produced, many went unsold and were later melted by the Mint. With
the two main grading services show just 214 pieces graded. The
issue is a conditional rarity, and opportunities for collectors are
quite limited. This Premium Gem proof features a bold strike on
frosty copper-nickel surfaces that flash iridescent hues of plum,
emerald and amber through a metallic-tan patina. A few tiny carbon
spots on the obverse account for the grade, and only a few minor
imperfections are visible under a loupe. This Plus-graded example
has CAC approval, and for non-Cameo examples there are only two
finer pieces at NGC and there are none finer at PCGS (6/25).
Census: 15 in 66 (1 in 66+, 1 in 66★ ), 2 finer. CAC: 7 in
66, 0 finer (6/25).(Registry values: N4719)From The Mark George Collection.
